Nouveautés depuis la version 4.0-RELEASE ------------------------------------------- 1.1. NOYAU ---------- FreeBSD 4.1-RELEASE inclu le code mis à jour du projet KAME (http://www.kame.net) ce qui comprend les fonctionnalités suivantes : * Amélioration significative des fonctions IPSEC. En particulier, les associations de sécurité IPSEC n'ont plus besoin d'être précisées manuellement : le nouveau code supporte racoon, le démon IKE de KAME, qui est disponible dans /usr/ports/security/racoon. Racoon communique très bien avec d'autres systèmes IKE, ce qui signifie que FreeBSD 4.1 peut être utilisé dans un environnement IPSEC hétérogène. Le support pour la surveillance des changements dans les sockets, pipes, fifos et fichiers est présent ainsi que pour les signaux et les processus. Le support pour le "Wired for Management 2.0" (PXE) de Intel a été ajouté au gestionnaire de démarrage de FreeBSD. A cause de différences dans l'interface de programmation (API), les anciennes versions de PXE ne sont pas supportées. Cela permet un démarrage par réseau avec DHCP. Concernant la version de FreeBSD pour les systèmes Alpha : FreeBSD/alpha inclu désormais un chargeur avec FICL (support de Forth) intégré. Les ports parallèles sont maintenant supportés. De nouveaux types de systèmes Alpha sont maintenant supportés. Veuillez consulter le fichier HARDWARE.TXT pour plus de détails. Les AlphaServer 4100 (Rawhide) n'autorisent pas l'installation par disquettes ou cdrom. Une parade est d'installer en utilisant une autre machine Alpha et de déplacer le disque sur la machine AS4100. Une fois installé, FreeBSD fonctionne parfaitement. Les AlphaServer 2100A (Lynx) ne sont pas supportés dans cette version. Notez que les AlphaServer 2100 (Sable) fonctionnent sans problème. Les machines avec interfaces IDE intégrées et dont le SRM permet le démarrage depuis ces disques sont maintenant supportées avec le disque IDE comme périphérique racine/de démarrage. Consultez le fichier HARDWARE.TXT pour les spécificités des machines comme la vitesse, l'utilisation du DMA etc. Notez que les consoles TGA (intégrées ou sur cartes d'extension TGA) ne fonctionneront pas. Vous devrez utiliser une console série ou installer une carte VGA. 1.2. SECURITE ------------- Le noyau ainsi que les applications utilisateurs ont été inspectés afin de rechercher les bugs et les trous de sécurité liés à l'utilisation incorrecte des chaînes de format dans les fonctions de type vfprintf(). Aucune vulnérabilité n'a été découverte. Pour les corrections supplémentaires liées à la sécurité, consultez la liste des "Conseils de Sécurité" à l'adresse http://www.freebsd.org/security/ 1.3. PROGRAMMES UTILISATEUR --------------------------- Support du démon IKE de KAME, racoon, comme indiqué ci-dessus. Plusieurs utilitaires systèmes supplémentaires (whois, fetch et sans doute bien d'autres) peuvent maintenant être utilisés avec IPv6. cdcontrol(1) supporte désormais une commande "cdid" qui calcule et affiche le numéro de série du CD en utilisant le même algorithme que celui de la base de données CDDB. mtree(8) inclu maintenant le support pour un fichier listant les noms de chemins devant être exclus lors de la création et de la vérification des prototypes. Cela rend plus facile l'utilisation de mtree en tant que composant d'un système de détection d'intrusion. Le système de mot de passe unique OPIE a été mis à jour avec la version 2.32. OpenSSH a été mis à jour avec la version 2.1.0 qui permet le support du protocole SSH2 y compris les clefs DSA. Tout le mécanisme de boot des systèmes i386 a été corrigé pour supporter la détection automatique et l'utilisation des extensions BIOS de Gestion de Disque Avancé afin de supporter le boot au delà du 1023ème cylindre. En raison de ce changement, le gestionnaire de démarrage de FreeBSD (boot0) est passé d'une taille de 1 secteur (512 octets) à 2 secteurs (1024 octets). Plusieurs changements ont donc été faits pour gérer les chargeurs de boot MBR de tailles variables. libfetch a été grandement amélioré. fetch(1) et les outils pkg utilisent dorénavant libfetch au lieu de libftpio, ce qui signifie que les outils pkg ont gagné le support du HTTP et que les deux ont gagné le support IPv6. Le shell csh(1) a été remplacé par tcsh(1) bien qu'il puisse être encore utilisé comme csh(1). La commande more(1) a été remplacée par less(1) bien qu'elle puisse être encore utilisée comme more(1). ls(1) peut produire des listes de fichiers en couleur avec l'option -G (et un terminal approprié). 2. Supported Configurations --------------------------- FreeBSD currently runs on a wide variety of ISA, VLB, EISA, MCA and PCI bus based PC's, ranging from 386sx to Pentium class machines (though the 386sx is not recommended). Support for generic IDE or ESDI drive configurations, various SCSI controller, network and serial cards is also provided. What follows is a list of all peripherals currently known to work with FreeBSD. Other configurations may also work, we have simply not as yet received confirmation of this. 2.1. WORM devices that support CDROM commands are supported for read-only access by the CDROM driver. WORM/CD-R/CD-RW writing support is provided by cdrecord, which is in the ports tree. Upgrading from previous releases of FreeBSD ---------------------------------------------- If you're upgrading from a previous release of FreeBSD, most likely it's 3.0 and there may be some issues affecting you, depending of course on your chosen method of upgrading. There are two popular ways of upgrading FreeBSD distributions: o Using sources, via /usr/src o Using sysinstall's (binary) upgrade option. Please read the UPGRADE.TXT file for more information, preferably before beginning an upgrade. 5. Reporting problems, making suggestions, submitting code. ----------------------------------------------------------- Your suggestions, bug reports and contributions of code are always valued - please do not hesitate to report any problems you may find (preferably with a fix attached, if you can!). The preferred method to submit bug reports from a machine with Internet mail connectivity is to use the send-pr command or use the CGI script at http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html. Bug reports will be dutifully filed by our faithful bugfiler program and you can be sure that we'll do our best to respond to all reported bugs as soon as possible. Bugs filed in this way are also visible on our WEB site in the support section and are therefore valuable both as bug reports and as "signposts" for other users concerning potential problems to watch out for. If, for some reason, you are unable to use the send-pr command to submit a bug report, you can try to send it to: [email protected] Note that send-pr itself is a shell script that should be easy to move even onto a totally different system. We much prefer if you could use this interface, since it make it easier to keep track of the problem reports.
